Reclaiming Safety: How to Trust Your Home Again

Last summer, my home was broken into.

The summer before that (and in a different house) I was also broken into.

Every time, it felt like more than a loss of valuables—it was a violation. Critical documents, treasured items, and the sense of sanctuary I had worked so hard to build were gone in an instant. I felt unsafe, fearful, and shaken to my core.

When Home Feels Unsafe

A break-in isn’t just about stolen objects—it’s about shattered trust. Our homes are meant to be places of rest, creativity, and restoration. When that sense of security is ripped away, even the simplest tasks—opening a door, looking through a drawer they rifled through, all the follow-up to replace what was stolen—can trigger anxiety.

This is where house magic becomes essential. Magic isn’t only about charm or ritual; it’s about reclaiming your space, energy, and trust. After my break-ins, I had to relearn how to feel safe in my own home—and how to trust the people and systems around me.

Resetting Your Home

The first step in reclaiming safety is resetting your home energetically and physically. I walked through every room, cleaned, reorganized, and reestablished boundaries.

Locks were changed, windows reinforced, and sacred spaces cleared and protected. I used rituals to invite peace, protection, and clarity, signaling to myself—and to the universe—that my home was once again a sanctuary.

Equally important was rebuilding trust—in my home, and in people. Safety isn’t just about barriers and alarms; it’s about cultivating a sense of reliability and care.

I reached out to neighbors, shared my experience, and reinforced the community bonds that protect and support us. House magic, at its core, is about connection—between you, your home, and the world outside.

The Magic of Resilience

Feeling safe again doesn’t happen overnight. But you can work with your house to build that trust again.

But each step you take—physically securing your space, energetically clearing it, and reconnecting with your community—strengthens your foundation. Your home becomes a living reflection of resilience, trust, and intention.

Quick Action

Begin today by choosing one small area in your home that feels exposed—an entryway, a drawer of important papers, or a window that doesn’t lock. Take one tangible step to protect it.

Then, close your eyes and take a few slow breaths. Visualize a luminous shield forming—a clear, radiant bubble, like Glinda’s, gently wrapping around the space. Feel it pulse with warmth, safety, and calm. Whisper to your home, inviting it to work with you, sealing this area from anything that is not for your highest good and the highest good of all. Stay with the image for a few moments, letting your intention sink in.

When you open your eyes, notice how the space feels—lighter, calmer, and quietly protected. Even a small action like this sends a ripple of safety through your entire home, restoring trust and inviting your magic to flow freely.
